Workshop / Triple Parade 2015: FIN-ject, the Finnish quintessence of an object
Liesbet Bussche, researcher at the Jewellery Design department, led the workshop ‘FIN-ject’ during the Finnish edition of Triple Parade. For two days, participants worked on the Finnish quintessence of an object. Next to the exhibition and the workshop, she gave a lecture during a one-day seminar.
A quintessence is a thing that is the most perfect example of its type. Or in other words, the most perfect embodiment of something. It’s the essence of an object in its purest and most concentrated form.
In its physical presence, a quintessence has the same meaning as an archetype, an original model of something from which others are copied. These prime models have the strength not only to be recognizable for the experts, but by a wide audience.
A quintessence also has an immaterial significance as the fifth intangible element, besides the four material elements (water, earth, air and fire). Converted to an artistic practice, it may be the thought of the artist, which he appends to form and matter.
In this two-day hands-on workshop, we are going to unite those two quintessences: What is the most archetypical appearance of an object and how do you transfer it into something individual? What is the Finnish archetype? What is your identity?
